Opened April 2017 in Isleworth, West London, Melrose Diner is an all-day modern American eatery bringing excellent hospitality and an inventive menu of American comfort food to West London. Melrose Diner’s menu offers Americana diner classics, with a twist and ‘served with a smile’, in a comfortable and relaxed space with an emphasis on USA-style hospitality.

Melrose Diner is the first independent project by Alex Winchester, a seasoned operator who was previously operations director at Village London (Riding House Café) and Ricker Restaurants, manager at Atlantic and Mash (Oliver Peyton), and who has overseen some of the capital’s hippest dining rooms for nearly two decades.

All American heroes from the Melrose Diner menu include Lobster & Prawn Donuts, the Allotment Burger (featuring 10 vegetables), the Arizona Dog (a reworked Sonoran Dog), Apple Slaw, plus a Cobb and Super Food Salad. Indulgent brunches include Vanilla Pancakes with blueberry compote, and French Toast Fingers with Nutella Sauce. Daily changing specials are displayed on blackboards throughout the interior. Dessert highlights include Chocolate Raspberry Brownie, as well a handmade Pie of the Day made with seasonal fruits, as well as Freakshakes.

A drinks list, curated by industry impresario Angus Winchester, Alex’s brother and owner of soon to open Embassy bar in Brooklyn, New York, features signature cocktails like a Gin Basil Smash, inspired by The Worship Street Whistling Shop and a Tommy’s Margarita. Pre-bottled cocktails by Aske Stephenson are available for the first time at Melrose Diner, with flavours such as a Peanut Butter & Jam Old Fashioned or Cigar & Coffee Manhattan.

Located in the middle of the London Road parade of shops and restaurants in Isleworth, the street level space consists of a 40-cover dining area and a counter bar to seat six. Interiors by Stuart Edney of Spacebrand (designer for Coya, La Petite Maison and Jamie’s Italian) use simple finishes, concrete, copper, recycled timber and leather that are enhanced by pineapple wallpaper and a decorative tiled bar front. The look is contemporary with contrasts of industrial and copper light fittings, sumptuous banquette seating with head pads and reclaimed kitchen utensils as playful decor items.
