The Umbrella Project Announces Year-Long International Takeover Series

A year-long series of bar takeovers will be taking the world by storm, as The Umbrella Project takes their award-winning east London bars, The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company on an international road trip filled with 12 monthly events in some of the world’s best bars with some of their favorite people for a year’s worth of parties. Following on from their January takeover at Electric House in London and Bristol’s Filthy XIII in February, the team will be taking to the road visiting everywhere from Liverpool and Dublin, to Paris, Barcelona and even jetting across the Atlantic to Seattle. ‘The Umbrella Project Presents’ series will offer an exclusive menu showcasing a selection of the greatest and latest cocktails from The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company’s talented bar team at some of the world’s most renowned bars. The soundtrack will be provided by Umbrella Radio DJ, John Robinson, who’ll be jumping on the decks at each takeover and bringing a little of Discount Suit Company’s Funk ’n’ Soul, and The Sun Tavern’s Rock ’n’ Roll for which the bars are known, to keep the vibes high. What happens on tour stays on tour.

In March, The Umbrella Project will be taking the series across the pond to the shores of Seattle, landing in the middle of Seattle Cocktail Week and behind the bar at Stampede Cocktail Club. Launching a six-strong cocktail menu, drinks will include Three Tides with Rum, Amaro Montenegro, Citrus and Salted Mead Syrup and a Winchester Goose with Vodka, Lillet Blanc, Green Melon and Gooseberry Shrub. Not satisfied with just cocktails? The team will also be showcasing some of Umbrella Brewing’s wares in the form of their fiery, cloudy alcoholic ginger beer, available on the menu as The Sun Tavern’s signature Beer and a Bump, featuring a shot of whiskey and a bottle of their Umbrella Brewing Ginger Beer or Sparkling Cider.

Come April, the team will head up to Liverpool, to take over the bar at Simon Thompson’s Present Company, before heading across to Dublin to the Teeling Whiskey Distillery for a special collaboration with the Teeling brothers. Joining forces, the teams will launch an Umbrella Brewing Ginger Beer finished with Teeling Whiskey and a Teeling Whiskey finished with Umbrella Brewing Ginger Beer just in time to celebrate World Whiskey Day. Jumping across the channel in June, The Umbrella Project will be taking over the renowned Lulu White in Paris, a raucous haven for the late-night wanderers of the city. With their six-strong cocktail menu including the Dew Dropper with Gin, Italian Vermouth, Manzanilla Sherry, Green Melon, Hibiscus Mead and Agave, guests will be able to sip the night away to a soundtrack usually confined to East London.

Bringing it back to the UK and heading up to Sheffield, the July takeover will take place at the award winning Public, the former public convenience of Sheffield Town Hall and the home of cocktails, fine food and vinyl records. In August, the team will fly over to Barcelona with a special takeover at world renowned party bar Two Schmucks, the no-frills joint yet superior cocktail bar located down the little thoroughfare of Carrer de Joaquin Costa. A bar with a concise cocktail list, The Umbrella Project will be bringing a touch of London to the streets of Barcelona with their cocktail menu including the Doodle Bug with Bourbon, Ruby Grapefruit Aperitif, Palo Cortado and Chestnut.

Heading up to Edinburgh, Scotland in September, the team will take over Iain McPherson’s Nauticus Bar, an establishment that proudly champions Scottish produce wherever possible, situated in the heart of Leith in the Scottish capital. From there The Umbrella Project will head south in October to Cain & Grain in Manchester, home to The Liars Lounge, the second incarnation of the award-winning tiki bar and Caribbean rum shop, The Liars Club – a group known for their ability to throw a party.
